The 2026 Sony Open in Hawaii officially teed off Monday, January 12 with a tournament blessing and players practice rounds. The blessing was held on the tournament's 10th tee with (photo below from left to right) Corbett Kalama, president of Friends of Hawaii Charities; Fumiatsu Hirai, Senior Vice President of Sony Corporation, Shaun Ushijima, president of Waialae Country Club; Ray Stosik, Tournament Director of the Sony Open in Hawaii; and Reverend Curt Kekuna.

Russell Henley won the 2013 Sony Open in Hawaii in his PGA TOUR debut with a record-breaking score of 24-under. He finished 2nd in 2022, tied for fourth in 2024 and tired for 10th place last year. In his thirteen starts at the Sony Open in Hawaii, he's earned almost $2.8 million at Waialae.

Majors champion Collin Morikawa

Majors champion Collin Morikawa will make his third start at the Sony Open in Hawaii (T21 finish in 2020 and a T7 finish in 2021). Morikawa won the 2020 PGA Championship and The Open Championship in 2021.

The 2026 Sony Open in Hawaii starts off the PGA TOUR season with an electrifying lineup at Waialae Country Club. The 120-player field includes four top-10 ranked golfers: Russell Henley, JJ Spaun, Robert MacIntyre, and Ben Griffin, along with major champions Collin Morikawa, Keegan Bradley, Jordan Spieth, and Brian Harman. Defending champion Nick Taylor will make his 10th start at the Sony Open in Hawaii, seeking to become the first golfer to win back-to-back titles since Jimmy Walker in 2014-15. In his last three starts at Waialae before his 2025 victory, Taylor finished T11 in 2021, T7 in 2023 and T7 in 2024. Six other past Sony Open champions include Henley, Hideki Matsuyama, Zach Johnson, Si Woo Kim, Patton Kizzire and Vijay Singh are in the field.

The players are vying for the first FedEx Cup points of the year and a share of the $9.1 million purse. The season-opening event will also showcase a fresh crop of stars, including seven of the top 10 players who earned TOUR status via the DP World Tour, 19 of the top 20 from the Korn Ferry Tour, and all five who earned TOUR status via Q-School.

Kamehameha Schools Maui alum and UH Men's Golf junior Anson Cabello earned a spot in the 2026 Sony Open in Hawaii after winning the Hawaii State Golf Association amateur qualifier last November. He and Aloha PGA Section champion and Mid-Pacific Country Club Head Teaching Pro Corey Kuzuma are the two local golfers representing Hawaii in the 2026 PGA TOUR event.
