SONY OPEN IN HAWAII IS A WIN-WIN FOR LOCAL CHARITIES THE STRENGTH OF OUR GIVING

Local charities are the biggest winners of the Sony Open in Hawaii! Since 1999, Friends of Hawaii Charities has raised over $20 million for over 350 local non-profits, thanks to the steadfast support of title sponsor Sony Corporation, charity partner The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, host site Waialae Country Club, Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, generous local business sponsors and hundreds of volunteers.  All working together to produce a PGA TOUR event and through golf, give help to the underserved in our community. Josh Heimowitz, Senior Managing Director for Teach For America Hawaii explains how their charity has both celebrated and contributed to the strength of our giving.

“Teach For America has been working in Hawaii since 2006 with the goal of making sure every kid in Hawaii has access to an excellent education.  We recruit folks to teach initially for two years, but we expect most of them stay in education.”

“Friends of Hawaii Charities has been a longtime supporter of Teach For America, specifically our coaching and support of teachers, to make sure our teachers have resources.  One of our largest priorities has been local recruitment.  One of the things we’ve been able to do is volunteer every year (at the Sony Open in Hawaii), and to hear from the golfers and the sponsors who are swinging by to talk about how important education and teaching is - it is a win-win for us.”

When you donate to a participating charity like Teach for America Hawaii through our Aloha for Hawaii Charities campaign now through January 20, 2021 (4 pm HST), that charity will receive 100% of your donation plus a bonus boost from a funding pool generated by Friends of Hawaii Charities from the 2021 Sony Open in Hawaii.
