Sony Open in Hawaii is the Venue for The Strength of Our Giving

A new year and a very different Sony Open in Hawaii is upon us.  Corbett Kalama, president of Friends of Hawaii Charities shares the real purpose of the longest-running PGA TOUR event in Hawaii - The strength of our giving.

"Friends of Hawaii Charities’ strength is in the small businesses that support us, the State of Hawaii being very supportive, the county of Oahu, our volunteers that come through, Waialae Country Club and its members putting up this beautiful venue for us, and our title sponsor Sony Corporation in conjunction with our charity partner The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation.  We live in a special place where people care about people."

“The strategy for our giving is really, in my perspective, based on a Hawaiian saying, 'A'ohe hana nui ke alu 'ia, No task is too difficult when undertaken by all.'  With our community continuing to focus on providing food security, continuing to focus on caring for our kupuna, our elderly, continuing to care for those who cannot care for themselves, that’s where the strength of our giving is going to occur."

The 2021 Sony Open in Hawaii tees it up January 11-17 and will be played without spectators.  Watch the PGA TOUR competition on Golf Channel's live broadcast, Thursday-Sunday, January 14-17.
